A baseline for better decisions
Commissioning tests establish reference measurements before a transformer enters service. Comparing later results with those baselines can help identify changes in winding, insulation or connection condition. No single test provides a complete diagnosis.
What winding resistance can reveal
DC winding resistance measurements can help identify poor connections, winding discontinuities and tap changer contact issues. Compare results with previous readings and equivalent phases, accounting for winding temperature and the manufacturer’s guidance.
Select a coordinated test scope
Turns ratio, insulation resistance and dielectric measurements provide complementary information. The test scope should reflect asset history, voltage class and the question being investigated. Isolation, controlled discharge and demagnetization must be planned by qualified personnel.
Connect knowledge with the right solution
Discuss the asset, operating history and testing objectives with an engineer before selecting a test scope or instrument.
